The inspiration for Barro came from a love of baking passed down from my abuelita Agapita who operated a small bakery out of her humble home in her hometown of San Pedro Limon, Mexico. She learned to bake from her suegro (father in law) then she taught mi jefita (mom) who then taught me.
Everything she baked was made from scratch with love for her family and the people in her town (her other familia). Baking for her was more than just making bread and more than a business, it was building strong bonds with her family and with her community. This passion for people and tradition is the heart of Barro and just like my abuelita I too want to establish relationships with those in my community. I want to continue using the recipes and methods passed down from generations and more than anything I want to honor my family and cultural heritage through everything I make.
